Not all Veterans have access to healthcare or health insurance. There are many barriers to treatment that they experience on a daily basis.
Veterans, especially those who have been living unhoused for long periods of time, often need quick medical care. With no insurance, it is often difficult (if not impossible) to be seen by a healthcare provider. Having funds appropriated for self-pay costs for medical care ensures Veterans do not experience a delay in care and get treatment when they need it.
Many Veterans forgo picking up their vital medications due to costs. This only exacerbates their health issues. Veterans should not have to choose between their medicines and food or other basic necessities.
